I did suspect back then that Blokada could be the source of the issue but I did whitelist Pocket Casts in it so I disregarded this. A couple weeks ago I decided to reset my phone and root it and amidst this process I stopped using Blokada and started using AdAway, since then I've been receiving new episodes notifications as I should (also auto-downloading in background). UPDATE: I think I've finally found a fix for this issue.

One thing I'm not sure could play a role in this is that the Pocket Casts desktop app is almost always open in my PC althougt I've noticed I did receive background notifications while the desktop app was running. I've double checked every setting that I think could affect this but nothing seems to change this behavior. We talk about refreshing our identities and through Christ. Every once in a while I get notifications for new episodes the way it should be. I used to be two pushes, and then it force-downloaded on the cellular network. Also, there are certain settings that are not synced such as tile order, playback settings and podcasts to ve added to up next automatically. That's the way to force refresh, but I don't assume it will change anything, because it is done periodically when online and logged in. But now when I have a episode pending download, and i push the icon, nothing happens. Click 'user' and 'refresh' at the bottom. To receive notifications and start downloading new episodes I have to manually open the app. My setup is that pocket cast only should download via wifi, however I am used to, that I can force-download an episode, if I want to. The background refresh is not working most of the times for me.
